Multiple Lines of Text Site Column

A multiple lines of text column should be used if you require rich text editing capabilities. It is displayed as a text area, optionally including formatting toolbars and allowing entry on more than one line.

To configure a multiple lines of text site column enter a name in the Column name textbox and complete the common properties. Then complete the additional column settings unique to this type of column.

Additional Column Settings unique to a multiple lines of text site column:

  1. Designate whether to allow unlimited length in document libraries. By default this is set to No.
  2. Specify the number of lines for editing (the maximum is six (6) with each line able to contain 255 characters). By default this is set to “6”.
  3. Specifying the type of text allowed determines the level of rich text capabilities provided to the user. By default this is set to “Enhanced rich text”. The available options include:
    • Plain (no formatting capabilities),
    • Rich text (color, text size, bold, italic, text alignment) , and
    • Enhanced rich text (rich text with pictures, tables and hyperlinks). Enhanced rich text provides an Editing Tools ribbon.
  4. Designate whether to append changes to existing text. If enabled an empty text area will be provided each time a user enters information. The text is saved along with the User-ID and date. All previously entered information is maintained. Versioning must be enabled. By default this is set to No.
