Single Line of Text Site Column

A single line of text column is default selection on the column creation screen. This is the most common type of column and requires the least configuration. A single line of text column renders a textbox that will hold a maximum of 255 characters. It can hold textual information including numbers, punctuation, and symbols without carriage returns.

To configure a single line of text site column, enter a name in the Column name textbox and complete the common properties. Then complete the additional column settings unique to this type of column and, optionally, the column validation settings.

Additional Column Settings unique to a single line of text column:

1. Maximum Characters allows you to specify the maximum number of characters the user can enter. This value can be from 1 to 255. By default this is set to “255”.
2. Default Value allows you to specify an initial value for the column.
