Document Numbering Across Environments

A document numbering template can be configured for multiple environments (libraries, content types, lists). The schema configured for each of the environments can be different for each of the environments. The numbering, however, will be continuous across the environments. Separate Current Indexes will not be established for each of the configured environments.

The template configured in Site Settings controls the numeric portion of the document number.

The schema configured in the environment controls only the format of the document number.
