Calculated Site Column

A calculated column is not intended for user entry. It is designed to calculate and display a value based on a formula that uses other list item column data.

To configure a calculated site column, enter a name in the Column name text box and complete the common properties. Then complete the additional column settings unique to this type of column.

Additional Column Settings unique to a calculated site column:

  1. Formula allows you to enter a calculation that will be used to determine the value for the column. The formula consists of functions, operators, constants and references to other columns. The available columns are located in the “Insert Column” box. A complete list of functions with instructions is located in the “Formulas and Functions” section of the SharePoint help files.
  2. Data type determines the type of data that the calculated column will create. It includes: Single line of text; Number; Currency; Date and Time; Yes/No.
