Create a Site Content Type

Site Content Types are created and managed in the Site Content Type Gallery that is located in the Site Settings for your site. Once a site content type is created it can be added to one or more libraries or lists. Site content types that have been added to a library or list can be referred to as active content types. Active content types inherit from their parent site content type. Changes made to the site content type will be inherited by the active content types in the lists or libraries. Changes made to active content types do not affect site content types.

1. Navigate to the Site Content Type Gallery.
2. On the Site Content Type Galleries screen click on the Create link located on the toolbar.
3. On the New Site Content Type screen:
   • Enter a short descriptive name in the Name textbox.
   • Enter an optional description in the Description textbox.

   Under Parent Content Type:

   • From the Select parent content from menu select the group where the targeted parent content type is located.
   • From the Parent Content Type menu select the content type from which the new site content type will inherit its columns and settings.
4. In the Group section you can either select an existing group in which to put your new content type or click on the New group radio button to create a unique group.
5. Click OK to save your Site Content Type.

The system will return you to a content type summary screen where you can further manage the new site content type.
