Manage the Permissions for a SharePoint Group
Management of the permissions for a SharePoint group is dependent on whether the user or group resides on a root site, inheriting subsite or a subsite with unique permissions.
- Permissions for a SharePoint group should always be managed from the root site for all sites that inherit from the root site.
- Permissions for a group on a site that does not inherit from the root site should be managed from that subsite.
To manage the permissions for a SharePoint Group:
- Navigate to the root site or the subsite having unique permissions where you have administrative privileges.
- On the site’s home page select Site Permissions from the “Site Actions” menu.
- Click on the checkbox next to the name of the group. The Modify group on the Permission Tools – Edit ribbon will be activated.
To Edit the Permissions:
- Select the “Edit User Permissions” icon from the Modify group on the Edit ribbon.
- On the Edit Permissions window modify the permissions by selecting or de-selecting the permissions levels.
- Click on the "OK" button to save the modifications.
To Delete Permissions:
- Select the “Remove User Permissions” icon from the Modify group on the Edit ribbon.
- On the message dialog, click on the "OK" button to confirm the deletion.
