Primary Author

Implementations are not required to make use of the Primary Author but it does allow you to establish one person to be primarily responsible for a document. Privileges for creating and deleting relationships as well as notifications regarding changes to related documents can then be assigned to the Primary Author.

Additionally, float and lock binding relationships can be configured to notify the primary authors of child documents upon parent lifecycle reset.

If you wish to make use of the Primary Author field, you must determine how the field will be set: in the smart document feature, by editing document metadata from within SharePoint, or as an exposed property in MS Word. You may modify the Primary Author column to be required and make the following changes to the Additional Column Settings:

  • Set column to Required,
  • Do not allow multiples,
  • Allow selection of People Only,
  • Set to All Users, but can be a desired group.

Creating a specific group for Primary Authors is recommended.
