Learn about Mail attribute.
The field value is displayed as a "MailTo:"-hyperlink in View mode. In Edit mode, the email icon 
is displayed beside the field. When the link or icon is clicked, a new email message is created for the address in the field.
Note:
For fields for which "email" property is set in the data model, you do not need to check the
Mail field attribute.
