Document Types

The Document Type field determines which template is associated with a document created using the Smart Document feature and how that document is processed. Additionally, the field can be used to pre-configure reviewers and approvers for each phase of the SOP process.

When a new document type is created, it is added to the document type list and populated in the document inventory list.

If an existing document type is edited and the SharePoint content type or the document template is modified for that document type, the changes are reflected in the document type list and the document inventory list. Once the document type is modified, the changes will be reflected in all documents created based upon that document type. Any changes to the process settings affect the processing of existing documents, if and only if, the document has not progressed to the modified setting. In other words, if you modify Approval Settings and the document has not yet reached the approval phase, the modifications are applied to the document when the document is transitioned to the Approval phase. Conversely, if you modify Review Settings and the document has completed the review phase, the changes will not apply retroactively.
