Using the HTML editor toolbar to format and find text

The following table describes how to format and find text using the HTMLHypertext Markup Language. A set of tags used to mark the structural elements of text files. HTML files include tags that create hyperlinks to other documents on the Internet. Editor toolbar buttons.

Task Action
Changing to full screen mode Click on to change to the full-screen mode. To return to the normal mode, click on .

Formatting text

Select the text, click on and select a format. You can use button to select all text and then apply the format.

To remove the format, click on .

 

Changing the font Select the text, click on and select a font.

Changing the text size

Select the text, click on and select a font size.

Changing the font style

Select the text and click the desired button:

  • Bold
  • Italic
  • Underline
  • Strike-through
  • Subscript
  • Superscript
Changing the paragraph style Select the paragraph, click on and apply the desired style.

Changing the alignment

Select the text, image, or table, click on and select the desired button:

  • Align to the left
  • Align center
  • Align to the right
  • Align justify
Changing the text color
  1. Select the text you want to change.
  2. Click .
  3. In the Text tab, click the desired color. The text changes to the color you selected.
Changing the text background color
  1. Select the desired text.
  2. Click .
  3. Select the Background tab and click the desired color. The background changes to the color you selected.
Changing the indent
  1. Select the text, image, or table.
  2. Click to increase the indent or to decrease the indent.
Inserting quoted text Select the text, click on and select the desired option from the drop-down list.

Creating a numbered list

Select the text to which you want to add numbering, then click .

To create the list as you type, before typing the text, click. 1 appears at the beginning of the line, indicating the first item in the list. Each time you press ENTER key, the next list item is added to the list. To finish the list, press ENTER key twice.

To create a multilevel list, change the hierarchical level of items in the list by selecting the item you want to change and clicking or .

Creating a bulleted list

Select the text to which you want to add bullets, and then click .

To create the list as you type, before typing the text, click. A bullet appears at the beginning of the line, indicating the first item in the list. Each time you press ENTER key, the next list item is added to the list. To finish the list, press ENTER key twice.

To create a multilevel list, change the hierarchical level of items in the list by selecting the item you want to change and clicking or .

Undoing or redoing an action

  • To undo an action, click .
  • To redo the action you undid, click .
Inserting an external image

Click on and type the URLUniform Resource Locator. An Internet address, as well as a standard method of naming files on the Web. A URL begins with a protocol name (such as http), followed by a colon and two forward slashes(//). Next comes the name of the internet server that the file is stored on, followed by directories that hold the file, separated by forward slashes(/). The filename comes last, as shown in the following example: http://www.mycompany.com/whatsnew.htm of the image in the URLfield. For more information, refer to Adding Images and Image Properties.

NOTES

  • Make sure the path for your images is the absolute path (the complete URL), and not the relative path.
  • Wrong: /img/product.jpg
  • Right: http://example.com/img/product.jpg
  • The file formats supported for images are GIF, JPG, and PNG.

Inserting a table

  1. Click where you want to insert the table.
  2. Click .
  3. Select the number of rows and columns you want to insert. For more information about table properties, see Table Properties.

Inserting a horizontal line

Click .

Inserting emoticons

Click on and select the desired emoji icons.

 

Inserting special characters Click on . In the Special Characters pop-up window, select the desired character.
Inserting a link Click on . Fore more information, see Adding and Removing Links.

Task Action

Format text

Select the text and select a format from the Format drop-down list.

Change the font Select the text and select a font from the Font drop-down list.

Change the text size

Select the text and select a font from the Size drop-down list.

Change the font style

Select the text and click the desired button:

  • Bold
  • Italic
  • Underline

Change the alignment

Select the text, image, or table, and click the desired button:

  • Align to the left
  • Center
  • Align to the right
Change the text color
  1. Select the text you want to change.
  2. Click .
  3. Click the desired color. The text changes to the color you selected.
Change the text background color
  1. Select the desired text.
  2. Click .
  3. Click the desired color. The background changes to the color you selected.
Change the indent
  1. Select the text, image, or table.
  2. Click to increase the indent or to decrease the indent.

Create a numbered list

  • To undo an action, click .

Find text

  1. Click .
  2. In the Find What field, type the text you want to find.
  3. Optionally, do any of the following:
  • To match the case of the word or phrase that you typed, select the Match case check-box.
  • To match the entire word, select the Match whole word check-box.
  1. Click Find.

Replace text

  1. Click .
  2. In the Find what field, type the text you want to replace.
  3. In the Replace with field, type the replacement text.
  4. Optionally, do any of the following:
  • To match the case of the word or phrase that you typed, select the Match case check-box.
  • To match the entire word, select the Match whole word check-box.
  1. To replace one occurrence of the text, click Replace. To replace all occurrences of the text, click Replace All.

Insert a table

  1. Click where you want to insert the table.
  2. Click .
  3. Select the desired properties. For more information about table properties, see HTML Editor: Table Properties.
  4. Click OK. The table is inserted.

Insert a horizontal line

Click .
