Communicating Catalogs

Learn about the fixed and variable catalogs.

Fixed catalogs are part of the data model and are therefore communicated automatically, see Communicating Data Model Changes in the CRM.core Administrator Guide.

Variable catalogs are stored in the Catalog info area, see Catalog Info Area in the CRM.core Administrator Guide. Catalog values can be added, edited and deleted in the Catalog info are, see Editing Variable Catalogs in the CRM.core Administrator Guide.

Changes to catalogs are stored in the Catalog Maintenance info area on the catalog maintenance station and are automatically transferred to other stations during communication, see Automatic Catalog Maintenance. The Catalog Maintenance info area is not updated on all other stations.

Note: Aurea recommends that you never add catalog values to the database directly, and that you prevent users from editing and deleting catalog values on all stations other than the catalog maintenance station, see Defining Access Rights for Variable Catalogs in the CRM.core Administrator Guide.

If your communication hierarchy includes multiple tiers, stations on the second tier communicate catalog maintenance data to stations on the third tier etc.

When communicating, catalog values are matched up using the catalog value in the catalog base language and the tenant number. If catalog values can also be added on branch offices, new entries are communicated to the catalog maintenance station using the Catalog info area. The catalog maintenance station then communicates the changes to all other stations using the Catalog Maintenance info area.
