Historical Mail/Email Archival

Depending on the level of service purchased by your organization, AMS can provide users access to historical mail whenever it is required.

Historical Mail/Email Archival captures both incoming and outgoing email messages and attachments for your organization and archives them to an off-site data center.

Historical Mail and Email Archival are both inclusive names for two features of the AMS Suite of products:

Archive type Description
Continuity Archive

The portion of the AMS suite that provides the ability to archive messages during an Email Continuity activation, when your normal email environment is unavailable, and to recover these emails back to the email environment. Continuity Archive allows administrators to capture and restore emails, and allows end-users to search captured emails during an Email Continuity activation.

Continuity Archive allows you to:

  • Capture and archive email during Email Continuity activations.
  • Search archived mail
  • Recover archived mail
  • Create and manage retention policies.
  • View storage reports.

During an Email Continuity activation, end-users can access the Continuity Archive from:

  • Webmail interface or the Email Archive sign-in page on the data center console.
  • Mobile Webmail browser-based interface or Mobile App.
  • Or, if the Outlook Extension has been installed, the end-user’s Microsoft Outlook.
Enterprise Archive

The portion of the AMS suite that allows email messages to be captured from your email environment and archived based on retention policies defined by AMS administrators. Once emails are archived, they can be searched by end-users and reviewers, and several kinds of archives can created for both export and recovery into the normal email environment.

Enterprise Archive allows you to:

  • Capture and archive incoming and outgoing messages and attachments based on the Retention policies defined.
  • Create and manage retention policies to specify which messages should be archived, under what conditions, and for how long.
  • Search archived mail.
  • Recover archived mail back to the Exchange servers.
  • Create reviewer groups to manage messages and archives.
  • Track messages that fail to archive properly.
  • Envelope Journaling to allows email messages to be parsed based on the message’s envelope, providing more details about the message.

  • Synchronize Outlook Folder structure
  • Import emails into the archive and export them.
  • Storage Management to greatly reduce the amount of storage space required for retaining messages.
  • View storage reports

Reviewers can access and search the Enterprise Archives from the Email Archive sign-in page on the data center console.

End-users can access & search personal emails in the Enterprise Archive’s feature from:

  • The Email Archive sign-in page on the data center console.
  • Mobile Webmail browser-based interface or Mobile App.
  • Or, if the Outlook Extension has been installed, the end-user’s Microsoft Outlook.

TIP

The default date format for Historical Mail/Email Archival is MM/DD/YYYY. If your organization prefers a different date format contact Support and to have the organization’s Historical Mail/Email Archival date format changed.
