Communication Format

The C.Format (Communication Format) info area is used to determine which data is output or input on a station.

You then need to define a connection between the communicating stations in the Communication info area and assign the communication format to the connection, see Communication Info Area. You need to define the connection between stations and a communication format before you can communicate.

The following general rules apply to communication:

  • Data in an info area is only communicated if the Output and Input cells are enabled for the info area in the communication format.
  • Dependent records are only communicated if the parent record is communicated.

    Examples:

    • Activities are only communicated if the activity's parent person or company is communicated.
    • If the Person info area is not communicated, but the Activity and Company areas are, only company-related activity records are communicated.
  • The City info area (Maintenance module) is not updated when inputting data, i.e. no new city records are added for the cities entered in communicated company records, see City Info Area in the CRM.core Administrator Guide.
  • Records in the WWW Interest info areas (and any dependent records) are only communicated if company or person records have been generated based on the record, see WWW Interest in the User Manual.

If you do not wish to restrict the data that is communicated between stations, enable the Output and Input cells for all info areas by clicking on the column headers. Assign the communication format to all communication connections.

If you wish to restrict the communicated data (e.g. by area, rep, product group etc.), you can define conditions in the communication format and/or the Distribution Logic info area, see Defining a Communication Format and Distribution Logic.

Conditions in the communication format and Distribution Logic info areas can be combined using a AND or OR, see Combining Communication Formats and Distribution Logic.
