Most special characters (#, +, /, _, ', *, etc.) are not allowed or are ignored. If special characters are included in the search string unexpected results will likely occur, such as no messages or all messages being returned.
All search terms should be at least 3 characters long.
To search for an exact string, enclose the string in double-quotes ("exact string").
The search index is based on whole words or tokens, not partial words or individual letters/numbers.
For example: The search term mail would not return documents containing the term gmail.
The search term company would match person@company.com, but not person@newcompany.com.
Let the search engine help search for words with the same root (stemming).
For example, if you type project the search also matches the words projected, projecting, and projects.
Including stop words as search terms will cause unexpected search results or may cause the search to not return any messages.
To search for a phrase that includes stop words, enclose the phrase in double- quotes: "sit in the boat". In the search index, stop words are replaced by a token that represents any stop word, which means the quoted search string will be translated to a search for "sit [any stop word] [any stop word] boat".
