Using the Webmail Interface

When your organization's email system fails or has scheduled down time, the Email Continuity service of AMS is activated, and you should receive a notification from your administrator instructing you to stop using your primary email system and begin using the AMS Webmail instead.

When Email Continuity is set to Active by your administrators, the Continuity section of the Home page changes to Active:

You can access your email using the Email Continuity Webmail interface only when Email Continuity is Active. Click Access your emergency mailbox to launch WebMail. If Email Continuity is not active, you will not see the option to access your mail.

The Webmail Inbox page for your mailbox displays messages received since AMS Continuity was activated for you.

The Webmail Inbox

After the email outage is resolved, all email that was sent or received during the event will be recovered back to your primary email system.

During this process, you should use your primary email system to send and receive message. Or if you need to view an item that hasn’t yet been recovered, you can access Webmail in read-only mode, by clicking Access your emergency mailbox in read-only mode.

To access email during Email Continuity activation

  1. After you receive the notification from your administrators, log in to Email Continuity using the URL in the notification.
  2. The Email Continuity Home page appears, showing that Email Continuity is Active.

The notification that is received when Continuity has been activated

  1. To access your mail during an activation, click the Access your emergency mailbox link. The Inbox page for your mailbox displays. Messages shown here include only those received since the time the service was activated for you.
  2. The default Inbox page lists messages in reverse chronological order (newest messages at the top). To change the sort order, you can:
    • Click From to sort the list alphabetically based on the first letter of the sender’s display name.
    • Click Subject to sort the list alphabetically based on the first letter of the message’s subject.
    • Click Received to sort the list chronologically.
    • Click Size to sort by message size.
    • Note that the size of a message when it is displayed in Webmail may be different from the message’s displayed size when it is recovered to your regular email system. This is because Webmail and your primary mail system use different storage formats, which calculate message size differently.

To reverse the sort order, click the column heading a second time.
