The Retention Hold creating screen

  1. In the Retention Hold Name field, type a unique name that identifies the reason to hold these messages.
  2. AMS Archive offers the option to evaluate new incoming messages and determine if they match any Retention Hold queries. If you want new matching messages added to the scope of this Retention Hold, check the Update Hold Automatically checkbox. If this checkbox is not checked, the scope of this hold is static and applies only to messages that match the query at the time the hold is created. For example, you can create a Retention Hold based on a query that matches all messages involving the user test@sample.com. If you wish to have all new incoming messages involving this user also included in the hold, then check this field. If you don’t need to hold new incoming messages involving this user, uncheck this field.
  3. Click Create Retention Hold.
  4. Click OK.

Depending on the number of messages selected for this hold, it can take up to 24 hours for all messages to be assigned to the new hold.
