Creating a Custom Properties File
To customize the content of a properties file:
- Download the properties file to edit. Follow the instructions under Downloading a Properties File.
- Open the properties file in a text editor that will display and save the file correctly, such as WordPad.
- Customize the values in the properties file.
- Do not change any field names (text that precedes the equal sign) or any commands or variables contained inside the values. See Audio and Text Customization Overview and Prerequisites and Commands and Variables for an overview of working with field names, commands and variables.
- Any uncustomized fields can be left in the custom file or deleted. Support recommends that a custom file should include only fields that have been customized, and delete any fields that should remain set to their default values.
- See the following sections for specific customization examples for each type of properties file:
- For prompts customizations, including the outbound greeting, see here.
- For constants customizations, see here.
- For date and time customizations, see here.
- For dictionary customizations, see Customizing Pronunciation with the Dictionary.
- Save the customized properties file as a plain text (TXT) file with a name that indicates its type and date, such as
Constants_Custom_2009_12_08_en_US.properties
orPrompts_Custom_2009_12_08_fr_FR.properties
. - Return to the AlertFind web interface and validate the custom properties file. See Validating a Custom Properties File.
- When the custom properties file passes validation, upload it. See Uploading a Custom Properties File.
