Firewalls
Firewalls have to be configured so that Aurea List Manager can send and receive emails.
For advanced firewall settings:
- If you need your internal email to be routed in a particular fashion, see DNS Bypass.
- If Aurea List Manager needs to bind to particular IP addresses for SMTP and NNTP, see Administration of Sites.
- If Aurea List Manager needs to bind to particular IP addresses for DNS look-ups, Tclport and Global Ban Server, see Server Settings- IP Addresses.
How Aurea List Manager sends Email
- Lyris Aurea List Manager has an in-built integrated mail server. This mail server engine, which is now in its second major revision, allows Aurea List Manager to send at speeds that are very difficult to match with other products, such as SendMail or Qmail. Aurea List Manager can relay to these servers, but it is not generally possible to reach the high delivery speeds Aurea List Manager can obtain using its integrated mail engine.
- Aurea List Manager 6.0 and later has its DNS resolver built into the product. This resolver allows thousands of domains to be resolved each second, at a speed which is difficult to match with other products, but which is required to keep up with Aurea List Manager’s high mail sending speeds.
- Both the mail sending engine and the DNS resolver that is built into Aurea List Manager require that they communicate directly with servers on the Internet for them to reach their maximum speed. This requirement introduces issues for some customers that want to protect their network with a firewall.
