MSDE and Aurea List Manager
There are installations of Aurea List Manager, which includes MSDE (Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine. If your version of Aurea List Manager includes MSDE (Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine), there is no need to worry about preparing your database or connecting Aurea List Manager to it. The Aurea List Manager installer takes care of that.
Note
Do not use Terminal Services to install the MSDE version of Aurea List Manager remotely. The MSDE version of Aurea List Manager cannot be installed successfully using Terminal Services.
There may be difficulties using MSDE and Aurea List Manager if you have previously installed Microsoft SQL Server client tools on the machine that is to run ListManager. If you have, you are going to see the following warning message from the installer:
Warning
It appears that you have (or have had) a version of Microsoft SQL Server installed that conflicts with the bundled server. Do you want to use Aurea List Manager for Microsoft SQL Server instead? That is a different installer.
If you are sure you want to use the bundled MSDE database server, you should uninstall Microsoft SQL Server software if you find that you are having problems with MSDE.
Limitations using MSDE
- There is a 2 Gigabyte limit to the total size of the MSDE database. If you are upgrading from Aurea List Manager 4.x, you should calculate the total size of your database directory to see if you can use MSDE.
- The optimal number of database connections for MSDE is 8.
